Is it free to chart my website?

Yes — completely. Adding your site to the Lodestar atlas is free, with no fee now and none later. Open the chart form, drop in your URL, pick a region, and you are plotted.

What is Lodestar?

Lodestar is a free web atlas: a hand-charted directory of 796 websites across 22 regions. A person places each site on the map, so you can navigate the open web by sight instead of by algorithm.

How are sites organised?

By region. Every site is plotted onto one of 22 regions — from software to travel — so related destinations sit together on the same plate and are easy to scan.

How do I chart my site?

Head to the chart page, enter your site’s URL, choose the region that fits, and submit. If you leave the description blank we’ll fetch one for you. It takes under a minute.

Do you review submissions?

We do. New bearings are looked over by a person before they settle on the chart, and we re-walk the regions now and then to retire links that have drifted offline.

Colophon

Lodestar is a free web atlas — a hand-kept map of the open web. We plot working websites across twenty-two regions, placing each one by sight rather than by algorithm.

There is nothing to install and nothing to pay. Pick a region, scan the plate, and follow the sites that match your heading. When you run a site of your own, you can chart it on the map in under a minute — free, and free to stay.

It is search turned inside out: instead of a blank box and a billion guesses, you get a small, legible index that a person actually maintains.
